I asked God what He wanted me to do,
And I thought perhaps He'd have some grand, exciting task for me.
A soul to save, an errand to run, a mission to embark on.
He didn't answer me at first,
And so I had to sit a while.
Quiet...expecting....wondering.
What tasks might come from the lips of God?
What thoughts are in His mind?
When one communicates with the Creator
The unexpected is anticipated.
But sometimes in communicating God allows awkward silences.
He's not afraid of them like we are.
So I wait.
I wrestle with the silence.
I try to whine Him into answering,
But He's firm and steadfast and wise; quiet and immovable as a rock.
He'll answer when He's ready.
He'll answers when I'm ready.
Finally the answer comes in pieces.
It quiets my thirst to do and awakes in me a thirst to abide.
"Pray. Learn what that means."
      "Discover Me as your Lover."
"Stand still, and see the Salvation of the Lord."
I put my running shoes aside.
My heart nods;
Yes, Lord.
You're inviting me into the wonder of knowing You.
Sometimes physical action is the easiest.
Spiritual, mental, disciplinary, relational action
Can be the hardest task of all.
Teacher, Friend, Lover, Guide,
I don't know how to delve into the deep places of Your heart like you want me to...
But you wouldn't invite me on a futile quest.
I adore Your way with me.
